Tony, and Parnell obviously loves it
too. After 28 years serving up the best
Italian fare Auckland has to offer,
a renovation to the premises was the
only thing missing from the busy restaurant.
With six weeks of intensive renovation
in 2008, the restaurant has been reborn
as a stylish eatery ready for its next
28 years of service.
“It was time for a change, something
more modern and bigger”. The first
thing they did was to extend the restaurant
by almost double and add a sunny courtyard.
They wanted somewhere where people could
feel “comfortable, relaxed and
would never forget.” So with a
vibrant colour scheme of red, blue,
black and white, comfy leather seats,
deep wood tables and secluded booths
mean that they tick all the right boxes.
As the flagship restaurant in a long
chain of Italian eateries, Portofino
in Parnell has stood the test of time
and has been in Parnell so long many
locals use it as their second kitchen.
It is a great mix of traditional Italian
recipes and know how created with the
best of local produce. With a family
traveling back to Italy each year, Portofino
knows they are always on the cutting
edge of Italian cuisine with famous
family franchise going from strength
to strength. Tony says the magic comes
from being a family owned business where
they cook together, eat together, laugh
together and each collaborates to create
a chain of restaurants that everyone
loves.
